As usual our class was a blast!  Jo Ann, Dan, Steve, Karen, Merill, Dave, David, Robin, Randy, Jay, Norky, and Jessica (who joined us when we were visiting after the study) attended.  Odette had Jury Duty so she couldn’t join us and Jenny is about to go on a month long trip, so also she was unable to join us.  Steve was visiting us from Beth El Congregation in Winchester, Virginia and invited everyone to a minyan Zoom meeting with his congregation that takes place on Tuesday mornings via Zoom.  Also, one of the past rabbis of his congregation had been a rabbi at Temple Israel! After Dan leading us in the song “Give Us That Old Time Religion” we read Chapter 2 in Galatians and also the grey box that is in the Jewish Annotated New Testament that is titled “Neither Jew Nor Greek.” Below is a summary of what went on written by Dan: Here are some tidbits: New Testament from Jewish point of view – June 27, 2022 We studied Galatians chapter 2 – The chapter brought up interest in what Messiani

After our usual opening of Give Me That Old Time Religion with Dan leading us in that song, we read the introduction to Galatians.  Give me that old-time religio n,  Give me that old-time religion , Give me that old-time religion , It’s good enough for me! If it was good enough for Moses, it is good enough for me! If it was good enough for the Hebrew Children, it is good enough to for me! Immediately, after reading the introduction to Galatians in the Jewish Annotated New Testament, many of us got quite upset since we learned that Paul seemed to think the Torah was erased and no longer God’s word and that Judaism was now null and void. David mentioned that Galatians may be the most anti-Semitic book in the New Testament.  Robin stated that she sees the roots of an

New Testament From a Jewish Point of View

I am now facilitating a Zoom class for my congregation Temple Israel Long Beach, California.  The class is meeting every Monday morning, Pacific Standard time via Zoom from 9:45 to 10:45 am. This is the first time I have facilitated a group like this and I’m excited about it!   Until Temple Israel’s Tanach class decided to read the New Testament, I had not wanted to look at it due to the fact that I had been forced to read it once and never really understood it.  The words seemed like gibberish to me. Now it is good to read it with others who may want to explore it in a non-threatening environment.  The temple’s Tanach class studied all four gospels and Acts, but didn’t want to study further, so I asked the temple’s education director if I could facilitate a class that continued what had been started.  We are beginning in Romans. The class description is as follows: “Jews and Christians read the same stories differently.  Explore and discuss the New Testament from a Jewish perspective
